PTA Committee Descriptions & Chairs

Want to help? We would love to have you volunteer! Choose to make a difference in your child’s school experience. We need your help to have our programs continue successfully. We greatly appreciate your assistance in making our school a great environment for all our children. Below is a list of available volunteer opportunities. Please contact our committee chairs by email and let them know you are available. Thank you for all you do to make our school a safe and fun place for our children!

 

COMMITTEE CHAIRS DESCRIPTION
Advocacy & Legislation Susan Soetebier This is the MAIN function of the PTA. We are advocates for the children. This committee will identify research and communicate legislation. The National PTA message is “everychild.onevoice.”
After-School Student Enrichment Julie Austin Volunteers coordinate after school enrichment classes such as Drama Kids, Abrakadoodle, Spanish, Overtime Athletics, Choi Kwang Do and Beach Club.
ARC & Reading Programs Debbie Willard Volunteers encourage and reward students for earning AR points.
Bingo Stacy Tippins Help at our yearly bingo night.
Book Fair Emily Dwyer Volunteers help set up for book fair, sell books and also assist with Muffins for Moms and Donuts for Dads. Our book fairs are usually in Oct and Mar.Working parent friendly – early morning shifts available
Box Tops Bonnie Alderson Encourage families to utilize the Box Tops website and cut and count Box Tops for Education. Working parent friendly.
Community Liaison Laura Catlin & Exec Board Volunteers seek out community support. The chair of this committee communicates and organizes community support for school functions and works with the school’s Partners in Education.
Community Outreach Laura Catlin Volunteers develop programs and projects that involve students in helping those in need in our community.
Cultural Arts Plan and sponsor community activities that help students gain an understanding and appreciation of the arts. Chair works with school planning and executing Fine Arts Day.
Dance This annual student/parent event will be held in February. Volunteers plan, organize and coordinate the many activities that make this a FAMILY fun night.
Due West Dash 5K Robin Toole Inaugural 5K run/walk on Oct 15th. This event will replace Boosterthon and is for the entire Due West Community. We will be hosting a 5k, 1k and tot trot. There is something for everyone. Working parent friendly
Due West Do-Dads Odd jobs such as building things, clean up days, planting trees.
Exceptional Children Karen Lewis An advocate within PTA and the school for the students in the special needs classes.
Family Dinner Nights Brooke Harvey Volunteers send out reminder notices and award prizes to classes once a month.
Family Fun Nights Volunteers distribute reminder stickers, count student participation at skate night and award prizes to the classes that win.
Fifth Grade Liaison Jennifer Reece Volunteers help with several 5th grade events and end of the year activities.
Front Entrance Robin Toole Volunteers keep the front entrance neat and attractive with flowers and plants.
Garden (Environment) Gayle Cackett Provides environmental education enrichment programs and projects. Volunteers help the students plant and take care of the garden.
Handbook Dana Rodgers The PTA produces a Handbook that includes all school and PTA information. The work starts in July. Volunteers with a creative side are needed to type set and organize the book.
Health and Safety Organize programs to promote physical, emotional and mental well-being. Volunteers coordinate Red Ribbon Week, drives, screening, etc. Hearing and vision screenings are conducted for K, 1st and 4th grade students. This year we will host a health/safety fair immediately following our Due West Dash 5K.
Holiday Elves Workshop Volunteers assist students with making crafts to give as gifts. The event will be held Thursday, December 1.
Hospitality Trish Fox Committee members organize food and refreshments for a variety of functions.
In-School Student Enrichment Volunteers helps organize science fair, writers fair, math & science activities and programs on early release days.
Media Center Gwen Stevens Volunteers help students check out books, reshelf books, and assist the media specialist.
Membership Carmen Lumpkin Volunteers plan, conduct and promote membership enrollment. Our goal is Platinum (100%) by September 30.
Newsletter Heather McBride Volunteers write and edit our school newsletter. Working parent friendly
Original Artwork Jeanette Waters Volunteers take orders and distribute items imprinted with their child’s artwork.
Outdoor MovieSpooktacular Melanie Granier Family night at Due West. Put on your favorite costume and come have dinner and watch an outdoor movie. Picnics are encouraged.
Production Lab Amy Pope Volunteers work on bulletin boards for the school and complete projects for the teachers, such as making copies, buttons, laminating and cutting. Working parent friendly
Recycling (Environment) Volunteers will work once a month on a designated morning before school assisting a group of fourth graders in collecting paper from the teachers’ bins to put in the recycling dumpster. This is a fundraiser for the PTA.
Reflections Jeanette Waters The Reflections Program is sponsored by the National PTA. Reflections encourages students to develop their skills in the areas of art, music, literature and photography. The State and National PTA recognize winning entries. Volunteers distribute information and arrange for entries to be judged.
Room Parent Christian Burns These volunteers provide a close personal contact between the PTA, parents, teachers and students. Room Parent volunteers coordinate classroom volunteers and activities as well as other PTA activities.
School Store Charmaine Faucher Volunteers work in the school store to assist students wanting to purchase school supplies. The store is open every Friday from 7:20 – 7:45 a.m. except during conference weeks. Working parent friendly
Scrapbook Mom Christine King Volunteers scrapbook PTA and school events to have a record for the future.
Spirit Shirts Brandy Black Volunteers order and sell Due West t-shirts at various school functions.
Staff Representative Cindy Stigall Due West staff member represents the staff at PTA board meetings.
Website Heather McBride Updates PTA website and sends Enews.
Yearbook Suzanne Beall Volunteers oversee photographs, creation and layout of the school yearbook for publishing. The yearbook is distributed in May.
