Want to help? We would love to have you volunteer! Choose to make a difference in your child’s school experience. We need your help to have our programs continue successfully. We greatly appreciate your assistance in making our school a great environment for all our children. Below is a list of available volunteer opportunites. Please contact our committee chairs by email and let them know you are available. Thank you for all you do to make our school a safe and fun place for our children!

| Advocacy & Legislation | Greg White | This is the MAIN function of the PTA. We are advocates for the children. This committee will identify, research and communicate legislation. The National PTA message is “everychild.onevoice.” |
| After-School Student Enrichment | Sharon Spurgeon | Volunteers coordinate after school enrichment classes such as Drama Kids, Abrakadoodle, Spanish and Choi Kwan Do. |
| ARC & Reading Programs | Marie Cohen | Volunteers encourage and reward students for earning AR points. |
| Bingo & Pizza | Colleen Page | Help at our yearly bingo night. |
| Book Fair | Heidi McDowell | Volunteers help set up for book fair, sell books and also assist with Muffins for Moms and Donuts for Dads. Our book fairs are usually in Oct and Mar. |
| Box Tops | Carrie Woodson | Cun and count Box Tops for Education. |
| Chick Fil A Night / Family Dinner Nights | Bonnie Alderson | Volunteers send out reminder notices and award prizes to classes once a month. |
| Community Liaison | Pam Dee | Volunteers seek out community support. The chair of this committee communicates and organizes community support for school functions and works with the school’s Partners in Education. |
| Community Outreach | Lucy Polemitis | Volunteers develop programs and projects that involve students in helping those in need in our community. |
| Cultural Arts | *chair needed* | Plan and sponsor community activities that help students gain an understanding and appreciation of the arts. Chair works with school planning and executing Fine Arts Day. |
| Due West Do-Dads | Charlie Gately | Odd jobs such as building things for the fall festival, clean up days, planting trees. |
| Exceptional Children | Karen Lewis | An advocate within PTA and the school for the students in the special needs classes. |
| Fall Festival | Angie Rawles | This annual fall event is a fun, special day for the students and their families. Each classroom sponsors a part of the carnival. The Festival features moonwalks, slides, a cakewalk, popcorn, and much more. Come join the fun! |
| Boosterthon Fun Run (Fall Fundraiser) | Suzanne Beall | This is the school’s largest fundraiser. We are able to sponsor many of the school’s needs from this event. Volunteers assist Fun Run staff organizing and running Fun Run. |
| Dance | Sharon Spurgeon | This annual student event is held in the Spring. Volunteers plan, organize and coordinate the many activities that make this a family fun night. |
| Fifth Grade Liaison | Suzanne Zalar Denise Rose | Volunteers help with several end of the year events for fifth graders. |
| Front Entrance | Robin Toole | Volunteers keep the front entrance neat and attractive with flowers and plants. |
| Garden (Environment) | Robin Toole | Provides environmental education enrichment programs and projects. Volunteers help the students plant and take care of the garden. |
| Handbook | Tassie Aycock | The PTA produces a Handbook that includes all school and PTA information. The work starts in July. Volunteers with a creative side are needed to type set and organize the book. |
| Health and Safety | Kristin Williams | Organize programs to promote physical, emotional and mental well-being. Volunteers coordinate Red Ribbon Week, drives, screening, etc. Hearing and vision screenings are conducted for K, 1st and 4th grade students. |
| Holiday Elves Workshop | Leah Shelton | Volunteers assist students with making crafts to give as gifts. The event will be held Friday, December 5. |
| Hospitality | Emly Dwyer | Committee members organize food and refreshments for a variety of functions. |
| In-School Student Enrichment | Jan Divelbiss | Volunteers helps organize science fair, writers fair, math & science activities and programs on early release days. |
| Media Center | Dru Fadus | Volunteers help students check out books, reshelf books, and assist the media specialist. |
| Membership | Kay Collins | Volunteers plan, conduct and promote membership enrollment. Our goal is Platinum (100%) by September 30. |
| Newsletter | Suzanne Zalar | Volunteers write and edit our school newsletter. |
| Original Artwork | Sharon Broadwell | Volunteers take orders and distribute items imprinted with their child’s artwork. |
| Production Lab | Gwen Stevens | This group of volunteers work on bulletin boards for the school and complete projects for the teachers, such as making copies, buttons, laminating and cutting. |
| Recycling (Environment) | Beth Elder | Volunteers will work once every six weeks on Friday mornings before school assisting a group of fifth graders in collecting paper from the teachers’ bins to put in the recycling dumpster. This is a fundraiser for the PTA. |
| Reflections | Jennifer Gilbert | The Reflections Program is sponsored by the National PTA . Reflections encourages students to develop their skills in the areas of art, music, literature and photography. The State and National PTA recognize winning entries. Volunteers distribute information and arrange for entries to be judged. |
| Room Parent | Katie Guest Trish Fox | These volunteers provide a close personal contact between the PTA, parents, teachers and students. Room Parent volunteers coordinate classroom volunteers and activities as well as other PTA activities. |
| School Store | Suzanne Beall | Volunteers work in the school store to assist students wanting to purchase school supplies. The store is open the first and third Thursdays from 7:20 - 7:45 a.m. except during conference weeks. |
| Scrapbook Mom | Christina King | Volunteers scrapbook PTA and school events to have a record for the future. |
| Silent Auction (Fall Festival) | Jennifer Gately | This annual event is held in conjunction with the Fall Festival. Volunteers initiate donations for the auction and organize the event. If you would like to donate something to this event, please call the Committee Chairperson. |
| Skate Night / Jumpits | Brooke Harvey | Volunteers distribute reminder stickers, count student participation at skate night and award prizes to the classes that win. |
| Spirit Shirts | Janet Carroll | Volunteers order and sell Due West t-shirts at various school functions. |
| Staff Representative | Cindy Stigall | Due West staff member represents the staff at PTA board meetings. |
| Website | Susan Piotrowski | Updates PTA website and sends Enews. |
| Yearbook | Jennifer Gately | Volunteers oversee photographs, creation and layout of the school yearbook for publishing. The yearbook is distributed in May. |
